This is an amusing, lighthearted romp that plays a bit like “Zelda Lite”, with less of a focus on combat and more on fetch quests. Tl dr – Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is an Action-RPG about an anthropomorphic turnip whose compulsion to rip up papers gets him in trouble when he rips up his taxes and has to make it up by running odd jobs for his town. While it’s not a very substantial game, Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is a delightful little romp that doesn’t do much to push the genre forward, but is nevertheless an absolutely charming game while it lasts, and fans of the Action-RPG genre looking for a brief but amusing distraction will likely find it worth their while. During that time, you’ll get into simple combat, some surprisingly clever boss fights, and quite a lot of fetch quests where players’ biggest challenge will be remembering who wanted the item you were just given. The game overall has a jovial tone and this presentation does a great job of maintaining that.Īs for the gameplay itself, this is basically “Zelda lite”, with dungeons that don’t last more than 5-10 minutes, and an overall quest that can be completed in 2-3 hours. Hey, it’s a strategy that’s worked for him in the past… oh wait, no, that’s what got him into this mess in the first place…Īnyway, this fun sense of humor is joined by an appealing, simple, colorful pixel art style with some bouncy animation, and backed by a good upbeat synthesized soundtrack. Everyone of this game’s edible characters seems to have some errand that they need help with, which Turnip Boy often resolves in his own unorthodox way, usually involving plowing right into whatever the situation is, and of course immediately shredding any papers he’s handed. One of the more delightful parts of this game is its amusing presentation and great sense of humor. Players take the role of a silent anthropomorphized turnip whose compulsion to rip up any paper he has in his hands comes back to bite him after he rips up his tax bill and immediately has to deal with the town’s mayor insisting that the player run errands for them to work off the debt.
